How to Find a Host Company

Unlike a study exchange, you are in the driver’s seat for a traineeship. You are responsible for finding and pitching yourself to a host organization. Think of this as your first real international job hunt! Here is a proven strategy to land a great placement:

1. Polish Your CV First

Before you reach out, update your CV (the Europass format is widely recognized in the EU) and draft a strong cover letter. Highlight the practical, hands-on skills you’ve learned at CUT.

2. Target & Pitch

Don’t just wait for open postings. Make a list of dream companies, design studios, or labs. Find the relevant manager on LinkedIn or their website and send a targeted cold email.

3. Sell Your Funding!

Don’t be afraid to ask for an interview! When you reach out, immediately mention that you are applying via Erasmus+ and will be bringing your own funding. Employers love this.

4. Leverage CUT Faculty

Your professors are your secret weapon. Many academics have deep connections with companies, research institutes, and universities abroad. Ask them for introductions!

Where to look for open positions online:

The Two-Stage Approval Process

Stage 1: Pre-Approval

Submit your initial application and transcripts via our portal. The Erasmus Committee ranks applicants based on academic grades, year of study, and language skills. If you rank high enough, you secure a “pre-approval” seat.

Stage 2: Securing the Placement

Once pre-approved, you have up to 2 months before your start date to secure an official Acceptance Letter from a host company. If you are doing a Category A (course-integrated) placement, your Departmental Coordinator must also formally approve the company’s suitability to ensure you get your ECTS credits.
