Nomination & Application
How do I apply for an Erasmus exchange at CUT?
You cannot apply directly on your own. First, your home university’s Erasmus Office must officially nominate you. Once nominated, you will apply through our online portal, which is open from July 01-14 for the Autumn semester and November 15-30 for the Spring semester.
What documents do I need for my application?
You will need a PDF scan of your Passport/ID, your official Transcript of Records in English, proof of English proficiency (B2 level), and a digital passport-style photo. Fine Arts and Design students must also submit a digital portfolio of their previous work.
Academic Info & Language
Are courses taught in English?
While the primary language of instruction at CUT is Greek, we offer a dedicated catalogue of courses taught entirely in English for our Erasmus+ students. You can also benefit from one-to-one tutorials and English bibliographies for certain pre-agreed courses.
Do I need an English proficiency certificate?
Yes. Incoming students are expected to have a minimum English proficiency of B2 level (CEFR). During your application, you must provide either an official language certificate (e.g., TOEFL, IGCSE) or a certificate issued by your home university confirming your B2 proficiency.
Do I have to learn Greek?
Yes! All incoming Erasmus students are required to attend the Greek Language and Culture Course (LCE 660) offered by our Language Centre. It is a fantastic way to integrate into the local culture, and it rewards you with 4 ECTS credits upon successful completion.
What is the grading system at CUT?
CUT uses a numerical grading system from 0 to 10, rounded to the nearest half unit. A grade of 5.0 is the minimum passing grade. A grade between 8.5 and 10.0 is considered “Excellent with Distinction”.
Accommodation & Practicalities
Does the university provide student housing?
We partner with the Christian Orthodox Church of Cyprus to offer places at the modern Apollonia Students Halls at lower rental prices than the private market. However, spaces are limited and allocated strictly on a “first come, first served” basis. If you don’t secure a spot, you will need to search for private accommodation in Limassol.
Do I need a Visa to study in Cyprus?
EU/EEA Citizens do not need a visa, but if your stay exceeds 3 months, you must apply for a Registration Certificate (Yellow Slip).
Non-EU Citizens must obtain a Student Entry Visa before arriving. Our Erasmus Office will guide you through this process once you are accepted.
Do I need Health Insurance?
EU/EEA Citizens must bring a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to access state healthcare. Non-EU Citizens must purchase comprehensive private health insurance covering repatriation and emergency medical expenses before their arrival.
Are there any specific rules I should know about in Cyprus?
Yes, two big ones! First, in Cyprus we drive on the left-hand side of the road (just like the UK), so look both ways carefully when crossing the street. Second, we use UK-style 3-pin electrical sockets (Type G), so you will likely need to pack a plug adaptor.
Student Life & Community
Is it true there is a free daily lunch?
Yes! In a beautiful gesture of hospitality, the local Greek Orthodox Church prepares and sponsors a free, warm lunch every single day during the semester for all incoming Erasmus students.
What is there to do on campus?
You will have access to dozens of student clubs covering everything from robotics to photography. Additionally, all incoming students get completely free access to the University Sports Centre, which includes a gym, tennis courts, and aerobics classes. Finally, the Student Union organizes regular group excursions to the mountains and beaches!
