Examinations & Grading System

Assessment Methods

CUT employs a diverse range of assessment methods to evaluate student performance holistically. Each course utilizes at least two assessment methods, with the final exam contributing a maximum of 60% to the overall course grade. Methods include Mid-term and Final Examinations, continuous Coursework (assignments, projects, practical exercises), and Presentations.

The Grading Scale

The grading system at CUT is numeric, ranging from 0 to 10, rounded to the nearest half unit. The minimum passing grade is 5.0.

Grade Point Meaning (English) Meaning (Greek)
9.5 – 10.0 Excellent with Distinction Άριστα με Διάκριση
8.5 – 9.49 Excellent Άριστα
6.5 – 8.49 Very Good Λίαν Καλώς
5.0 – 6.49 Good Καλώς
I Incomplete
P Pass (non-marked course)
W Official Withdrawal

Calculation of Semester GPA

For each course, we multiply the number of ECTS credits by the numerical value of the grade to determine your Grade Points. We then divide the sum of your Grade Points by the total sum of your semester credits.

(Sum of Grade Points) ÷ (Sum of Semester Credits) = Semester GPA

Recognition of Courses

At the end of your mobility period, you and your home university will receive an official Transcript of Records. This document includes all courses taken, the corresponding ECTS credits, and the grades achieved to ensure proper recognition of your academic work.

Language Policy & Support

While the official language of instruction at CUT is Greek, we are deeply committed to supporting incoming Erasmus students. We facilitate English-medium learning through one-to-one tutorials, project-based assignments, English bibliographies, and final exams conducted in English for pre-agreed courses.

English Proficiency (B2)

Incoming students are expected to have a minimum English language proficiency of B2 level. During application, you must provide one of the following:

  • Official language examination certificate (e.g., TOEFL, IGCSE).
  • A certificate issued by your home university confirming B2 proficiency.

The Language Centre

CUT’s dedicated Language Centre offers a variety of language courses to all students, including Greek, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Russian to help you expand your linguistic horizons while in Cyprus.

Mandatory Greek Language & Culture Course

To help you integrate into the local culture and maximize your experience in Cyprus, all incoming Erasmus students are required to attend the Greek Language and Culture Course (LCE 660) offered by the Language Centre. Upon successful completion, this course awards 5 ECTS credits toward your Learning Agreement.
