General Eligibility & Rules
Can I participate in Erasmus+ more than once?
Yes! You are entitled to a maximum of 12 months of Erasmus+ mobility per study cycle (Undergraduate, Master’s, PhD). This means you could do a 5-month semester exchange, a 2-month summer internship, and several Short Programmes (BIPs) as long as the total duration does not exceed 12 months.
Can I apply to study or work in my home country?
While technically possible, applying to do your Erasmus+ mobility in your country of permanent residence is strongly discouraged. These applications are given the lowest possible priority for funding and will only be approved if there is leftover budget after all other students have been funded.
Do I need to speak the local language fluently?
Not necessarily. Most of our partner universities offer a wide variety of courses taught in English. However, if the host institution requires a specific language (or if you are doing an internship in a local business), you must meet their requirements. Keep in mind that high proficiency (C1/C2) in the host language earns you extra points during the application ranking!
Semester Exchange & ECTS
What is the “25 ECTS Minimum” rule?
To go abroad for a semester, you must find courses at the partner university that correspond to your CUT curriculum and secure pre-approval from your Departmental Coordinator for at least 25 ECTS credits. If you cannot secure 25 ECTS, your application will be automatically rejected.
Do the classes abroad have to be exactly the same as my CUT classes?
No. Your courses abroad must have similar or complementary learning outcomes to your CUT program, but they do not have to be an identical match. Your Departmental Erasmus Coordinator is responsible for evaluating and approving these equivalencies via your Learning Agreement.
How does the point system work if there are limited seats?
If there are more applicants than available funded seats, the Erasmus Committee ranks applications based on: your year of study (3rd/4th years get priority), your academic grades (GPA x 2), language proficiency, and whether you are a first-time Erasmus participant.
Internships & Traineeships
Can I do an internship after I graduate?
Yes! Recent graduates are eligible for Erasmus+ Traineeships. The critical rule is that you must apply while you are still an active student (before your graduation date). Once approved, you have 12 months from your graduation date to complete the mobility.
Does the university find the host company for me?
No. Unlike a study exchange where we have specific university agreements, for a Traineeship, you are responsible for finding and securing your own host organization (company, lab, studio, etc.). However, you can use portals like ErasmusIntern.org or ask your professors for industry contacts.
Funding & Payments
When exactly do I receive the grant money?
You receive 90% of your total grant after you arrive at your destination and submit your signed Arrival Form and boarding passes to our office. The remaining 10% is paid within 30 days after you successfully complete your mobility and submit your final Departure Form and EU survey.
Does the grant cover all my expenses?
The Erasmus+ grant is meant to be a contribution to the extra costs of living abroad, not a full scholarship. While it includes a generous monthly allowance (up to €600) and travel support, you should be prepared to use some personal savings depending on your host city’s cost of living.
Am I eligible for the €250 Inclusion Top-Up?
The €250 monthly top-up is available for students facing socioeconomic barriers, specific health conditions, or who fall under special university admission categories (Categories A, B, and C). Please contact the Erasmus Office directly to verify your eligibility.
